A house or a slope-side condo?
Both make sense, for different trips. Here's the honest version.
A slope-side condo fits if…
- you want to walk or ski to the lifts
- you'd rather not drive at all during the trip
- it's a small group that doesn't need much space
Lodestone Retreat fits if…
- you want a private hot tub and your own house, not shared walls
- your group needs real bedrooms, 10 guests at most, and two places to hang out
- you'd like a full kitchen and laundry for a multi-day trip
- a 5–15 minute drive to the lifts is a fair trade for a quiet street in the pines
Getting to the slopes
Drive times are approximate and depend on traffic and snow. Parking rules and rates change through the season, so check the resort's parking page and the Town's skier parking guide before you go.
Ice Rink lotStephen C. West Ice Arena
About 5 minutesThe closest skier parking to the house. Free Ride buses loop from the lot to the Peak 9 base and the BreckConnect Gondola.
Peak 9: Beaver Run lot and F LotClosest to the slopes
About 10–15 minutes on busy daysThe Beaver Run lot is the closest to the Peak 9 lifts; F Lot works too, with more walking. The drive is barely longer than to the Ice Rink, but traffic slows it on peak days, and these lots fill early, so arrive before the lifts open.
North and South Gondola lotsBreckConnect Gondola
In townA short walk to the gondola, which stops at Peak 7 and Peak 8. Most of the season you can ski back down to the gondola at the end of the day, or ride it down.
Got a non-skier? They can drop the group at the Beaver Run bus turnaround, about 50 yards from the Beaver Run lift, and take the car home. In town, the free Breck Free Ride buses get you around without moving the car. For the drive up from Denver, see getting here; for season dates, passes and terrain, see our 2026–27 ski season guide.
Winter at the house
- Roads: 4WD or AWD is recommended. The Town plows regularly, but the neighborhood roads are steep in spots and can be slick even after plowing.
- Driveway: very flat, and plowed whenever snowfall tops 4 inches. A separate crew shovels the patio, stairs and the path around the hot tub.
- Wet gear: a mud and snow area at the basement entrance takes boots and jackets. There are no boot dryers, but there is a washer and dryer for base layers and socks.
Après at the house
Come back to the private hot tub, reached by a heated walkway, then gather around the wood-burning stove in the main living room (firewood is provided). Downstairs, the lower level has its own TV, seating, a wet bar, ping pong and board games, and the sunroom has a foosball table, so the group can spread out after a long day. See the rest of the house on the property page, or read our guide to winter in Blue River for snowshoeing, groceries and evenings in town.
What ski guests say
Minutes from Breckenridge Ski Resort, then home to the hot tub.
Tracy's group of two families used the home as their base for a 4-day ski trip. She praised the proximity to the resort and village, the cleanliness, and was surprised by the heated floors and heated walkway to the hot tub — details she wasn't expecting that made cold mornings and late-night soaks much more comfortable.
Tracy L.January 2025 Cynthia loved the privacy of being surrounded by trees while still being 5–10 minutes from the ski slopes. Her family spent evenings by the wood-burning fireplace and in the hot tub after heavy snowfall. When their vehicle wouldn't start, the host offered to send someone to help — she said that kind of personal service made all the difference.

Ski trip questions
- Is Lodestone Retreat ski-in/ski-out?
- No. It's a private house in Blue River, 2 miles south of Breckenridge, so you'll drive or take the Free Ride from a lot to the lifts. The closest skier parking is about 5 minutes away.
- Do I need four-wheel drive?
- We recommend 4WD or AWD. The Town plows the neighborhood roads regularly, but they're steep in spots and can be slick even after plowing. Our driveway is flat and is plowed whenever snowfall tops 4 inches.
- Where do we put wet gear?
- There's a mud and snow area at the basement entrance for wet boots and jackets, and a washer and dryer for base layers. There are no boot or glove dryers.
- Can someone drop the skiers off?
- Yes. A non-skier can drive the group to the drop-off at the Beaver Run bus turnaround, about 50 yards from the Beaver Run lift, then take the car back. The driver has to stay with the vehicle while dropping off.
- What about Keystone or the other resorts?
- Keystone is about 25–30 minutes away, and the whole county is within reach by car. A car is essential here: the nearest bus stop is a steep half-mile walk and is served only on the return trip.
